Advance Information   -   Summer 2004

MPV Helvétie

was laid-up in early 2002 as an economy measure

pending finance for a new engine

It is now expected the size of the operational fleet will be
further reduced to 13 vessels for the Summer of 2004

3 paddle steamers   La Suisse   Montreux   Rhône
2 motor paddle vessels   Italie   Vevey
6 motor vessels
and the 2 'one class' motor launches

At Ouchy works   Helvétie %   Simplon $   Savoie #

% - laid-up, awaiting finance for a major re-build
$ - withdrawn following explosion on Monday 18th August 2003
# - awaiting a major two year re-build
(and not expected to return to service until 2005)

Plans to completely re-vamp timetabled sailings for 2004 (by both paddle steamers and motor vessels) have been shelved until at least 2005

In the circumstances sailings will continue to operate
on a similar basis to 2003
but note all sailing numbers have been changed

The following traditional "full-length" lake sailings
normally paddle steamers (but more recently occasionally
motor vessels) are now planned to continue to
operate throughout the main Summer timetable
(16th May to 20th September 2004)
note - some of these long-distance sailings may not be repeated in 2005
(so make the most of them while you can)
sailings 2 and 4* - 0900 and 1015 Geneva to St-Gingolph
sailing 6 - 1430 Geneva to Le Bouveret
sailing 1 - 0850 Le Bouveret to Geneva
sailings 3* and 5 - 1150 and 1500 St-Gingolph to Geneva
[ also sailings 201-53-135 - 1550 St-Gingolph to Geneva $ ]
* - operated by a motor vessel alternate days
$ - 27th June to 29th August only and change steamers at Yvoire
Note - new sailing numbers are now shown
It has not been confirmed which vessels will operate
but with the exception of PS Rhône replacing PS Savoie
other rosters are expected to be similar to 2003

The above will again be augmented by "shorter" timetabled sailings and some "special" sailings by the paddle steamers

There are also minor improvements to some of the motor vessel sailings, particularly along the French coast
