Summer 2004 |
As a result of electrical problems, "Major maintenance" took place throughout 2002 and 2003 (also the opportunity was taken to replate at least 75 square metres of the hull) to the lake's only operational paddle steamer resulting in her remaining in dock both years Although no programme of sailings has been made public, the NLM has announced that the paddle steamer will celebrate in style during 2004 It is understood this will include some special "long-distance" sailings, but it is not clear if they will be available to the general public or if they will even reach Swiss waters at the northern end of the lake In addition it is hoped the regular Sunday lunch/afternoon cruises (introduced for the first time in 2001) from Arona to Stresa and the Borromee islands will be repeated Special public sailings are expected to include Sunday 15th August 2004 - the traditional annual Evening Cruise from Arona to Laveno Fireworks (timings should be similar to 2001) Watch this space for further information After all, why spend a lot of money only for the paddle steamer to remain tied-up at Arona "on standby" for most of the season ? | |
