C G N    Summer Timetable Advance Information   -   Summer 2005

MPV Helvétie was laid-up in early 2002 as an economy measure pending finance for a new engine It was expected the size of the operational fleet would be further increased to 15* vessels for the Summer of 2005 until 30th June 2005 3 paddle steamers La Suisse Montreux Rhône from 1st July 2005 (provisional) 4 paddle steamers as above plus Simplon $ also 2 motor paddle vessels   Italie Vevey 6 motor vessels and 3* 'one class' motor launches At Ouchy works   Helvétie %   Simplon $   Savoie #   % - laid-up, awaiting finance for a major re-build             (sadly, still no positive sign of any action on this front)   $ - withdrawn following explosion on Monday 18th August 2003 --- target for completion of repairs and return to service 1.7.05 (remaining finance permitting)   # - undertaking a major re-build             (but not now expected to return to service until 2006)  * - mv Grèbe was expected to be replaced by two new small motor vessels but this is now looking unlikely before 2006       - more likely to be 14 (the 13 in service during 2004 plus PS Simplon reinstated)

The company have published its proposals for 2005 and these have been circulated for comments as part of the SBB timetable review - in consequence timings may be considerably altered nearer the time It seems the previous "pruning" of long-distance sailings is to be defered until 2006, but a long-standing dispute between the CGN and the "Office Fédéral des Transports" could still change things next year There are several improvements to sailings by the motor vessels including a new all year round daily passenger ferry service between Chens-sur-Léman/Tougues and Nyon also local short cruises from Lausanne to both Morges and Cully - the latter subjection to completion of the two new small motor launches currently being built Click here for a summary of the sailings proposed to be operated by paddle vessels throughout the year (note the slightly longer season, extending beyoud the traditional September Monday local holiday) Below is an extract of the proposed "peak-summer" paddle steamer sailings (2nd July to 4th September 2005) - it will be noticed the sailings are basically those originally planned 2004, but with some detailed retimings in the evening:-
