It appears the paddle steamer
broke down
on her special
outward sailing
(probably near Cernobbio) on
Sunday 4th December
where it is understood her passengers ultimately had to alight
before she returned "light" to dock for repairs
Were YOU there ?
Do YOU know what actually happened ?
Someone must have sailed on her !
If so, please email me and I
will post the information for the
benefit of the other visitors to this website

Could someone please
remove that tree
or move the pier
|  |
The motor paddle vessel stands
at Vevey Marché pier in the rain
waiting to operate her first sailing 552 of the day
to the Upper Lake
It was just the same two hours later for sailing 556..........
..........but as a bonus PS Simplon can also be seen behind
- arriving from Lausanne
then she too hid behind the tree to call at pier before her return
sailing 553
Perhaps with so few people around, the CGN management wished they have waited
until Monday 8th June to re-start sailings - like the ZSG did over at Lake
Zurich !!!!!

A very, very long wait !!!!!
The PS Uri approaches
Pier No.1 at Luzern to operate the first public
paddle steamer
sailing 7 of the year
and later being greeted by an alpine horn player as she approaches Treib pier
At lunchtime PS Unterwalden waits
at Pier No.1 prior to operating her first afternoon
sailing 21
and is later seen approaching Weggis on return
sailing 30
Thanks to the Coronavirus restrictions no sailings had operated on the lake since
Friday 27th March

The paddle steamer arrives
at Geneva having sailed "light" from Ouchy dock
ready to commence her 'much delayed' 2020 season this Saturday
Initially this will be a special 'post-Coronavirus' timetable of
three round trips per day to Hermance ..........then from Monday 16th June
these will be extended to Yvoire (once the French border re-opens)

Were
you at Stresa
over the weekend ?
Do you have a photo you would like to see displayed here ?
|
For the first time since 2006, the
paddle steamer operated 'one hour' PUBLIC CRUISES
*
from Stresa to celebrate the "74th anniversary of the Italian
Republic"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She is also planned to repeat these sailings on Tuesday 2nd June
- which MAY end up being her final public sailings of 2020 !!!
It seems strange she was not also planned to sail on Whit Monday
- do you know if she had a private
charter instead ?
* - this does not include any Charter sailing also "open to the public"
She is expected to re-locate to Geneva for her 100th season
(subject to the Federal Council approval - following the Coronavirus precautions)
and she should be able to start sailing commencing Monday 8th June
Please note the CGN have stated on their website they intend to operate a modified timetable
from that date - details to follow shortly
The "paddle steamer" waits
patiently - along with many other members of the CGN fleet
stuck at Ouchy harbour - for the delayed start of the "Tourist" sailings
It must be nearing time for the cover over the top of her funnel to be removed
allowing final preparations to be made to make her ready to sail
A tranquil scene at pier No.2 in Luzern during the Coronavirus 'lockdown'
It looks like there is a "one family" protest saying......
" Use the paddle steamers - not mv Diamant ! "
In the background the former operational paddle steamer Wilhelm
Tell seems to agree
Maybe the Federal Council should note they have far more "fore" and "aft" open spaces
suitable for "social distancing" than most modern motor vessels on
any lake
MPV Vevey (Lake
The motor paddle
vessel remains on her enforced "standby" at Geneva
due to the on-going Coronavirus precautions
As things stand at the moment, it looks as if her next movement will be
a light sailing
to Le Bouveret (at the other end of the lake) to possibly
re-start the Upper Lakes ailings
vice the still unavailable MPV Italie
- commencing Monday 8th June at the earliest
A very rare sight for April 2020 !!!
The paddle steamer sets off from
Luzern for the main lake on her much delayed
pre-season "test" sailing and later returning to the dock
Hopefully this means at least one paddle steamer will
be ready to start public sailings
as soon as the Coronavirus restrictions are lifted
lies at a deserted
She had been planned to sail to the Obersee on Saturday 20th June along with the
two remaining paddle steamers to make "50 years
but the Parade is another victim of the
Coronavirus precautions
In consequence sailings 21-30 (or occasionally
another pair of sailings)
will for the immediate future be operated by a motor vessel
see below and further details to follow if or when I am advised
